Season Opener Success in Cocoa Beach
May 20, 2025Scott Free Racing officially kicked off the 2025 season with a podium finish at Thunder on Cocoa Beach, securing 3rd place in a stacked Mod V field. As the first stop on the APBA Offshore Championship Series, the weekend delivered everything you could hope for in an opening round—great racing, strong competition, and an incredible atmosphere from start to finish.
The weekend began with a packed block party in downtown Cocoa Beach, where fans came out in full force to meet the teams, see the boats up close, and get a taste of what offshore racing is all about. The turnout was one of the best we’ve seen, and the energy from the crowd gave the whole team an extra boost heading into race day.
When Sunday rolled around, conditions on the Atlantic were favorable, with light winds and manageable seas that allowed for some fast, clean racing. From the drop of the green flag, the Mod V class saw tight battles and aggressive driving from all teams. The team settled into a strong pace early on, staying in the hunt for the front throughout the race.
While we didn’t quite have the top-end speed to challenge for the win, our team executed well, avoided mistakes, and pushed hard to bring home a 3rd place finish. It’s a solid result to start the season and a great points day in what will be a long, competitive championship fight.
With Round 1 now in the books, the team is already looking ahead to the next stop in Lake of the Ozarks, MO. The boat is running well, the crew is dialed in, and we’re motivated to keep climbing. Big thanks to all our fans, partners, and supporters for kicking off the season with us in Cocoa Beach—we’re just getting started.
