2nd Place to Kick Off The Season at the 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix
May 2, 2023The 2023 season has finally begun and brought teams back down to the Florida Keys where we finished off the 2022 season. Marathon, FL hosted the 1st Round of the APBA Offshore National Championship Series, which will showcase some of the fastest boats in the world racing along the 7 mile bridge.
Both Friday and Saturday the team prepared the boat for the short and tricky course and everything check out perfectly after the rebuild this off season from the accident in Key West last year. Sunday's weather forecast of 20-30mph winds and heavy rain would definitely make picking the right setup a tricky one.
Finally Race Day was here and like they forecasted, the wind was blowing and we were dealing with intermittent rain. All 10 of the Modified Vee boats headed out to the course and when the green flag dropped, the team was in 3rd place when the first red flagged deployed for an upside down boat. The officials were able to get the race restarted for 2 more laps until the rain became a factor and visibility was so poor they had to throw another red flag. The team was running 2nd at that time and the rain had finally passed and officials restarted the race with three laps to go. Within striking distance of the leader, but not enough time left to get the boat into position to make a pass, the team had to settle for 2nd place out of a large field of 10 boats!
Overall this was a great weekend of racing despite the weather on race day. The boat ran flawlessly after the rebuild and it was good to come out with a great finish to start the season!
