Scott Free Racing Faces Adversity During the Clearwater National Championships

September 30, 2015

Scott Free Racing's last stop in the regular season ends up in Clearwater,FL for the National Championships. Clearwater always draws a large crowd which came out in full force Friday night for the parade and block party. Scott Free Racing has spent the past month preparing for the usually calm conditions Clearwater presents. Double checking all the nuts and bolts on Saturday, the team was ready to take on the four other competitors in the Super Boat Vee class. Race day brought calm conditions like teams expected and Scott Free Racing had the proper set up to take a shot at the checkered flag. As the green flag dropped, Scott Free Racing took the early lead with Phantom 9 followed close behind. " The boat accelerated great with our new prop from Hydromotive," said Stephen Kildahl. As the team continued to hold the lead, the crew started to notice the engine was loosing power. Scott Free Racing slowly started loosing positions and eventually the team had to retire from the race. "It was very disappointing to have to stop after having such a great run," said Stephen. Having to retire from the race earily left the team with a 5th place finish which will not sit well. The team will now work hard to fix the problem and begin testing for the biggest event of the year in Key West for the World Championship November 8-15th.
