Battling Through Adversity: Scott Free Racing Wraps Up the Key West World Championships

November 17, 2024

Scott Free Racing closed out the 2024 season in Key West, FL, at the World Championships, where the team faced a series of setbacks that underscored the unpredictable nature of offshore racing. Despite the challenges, the team showed grit and determination, finishing 4th overall and setting the stage for a comeback in 2025.

The week began with an unexpected twist when Hurricane Rafael brushed past the Florida Keys, forcing race organizers to cancel the highly anticipated Day 1 of competition. The cancellation heightened the stakes for the remaining two days, as every lap now counted even more toward the championship standings.

Day 2: Rough Waters, Tough Setup
When racing resumed, the waters off Key West were anything but forgiving. Choppy seas and relentless winds created treacherous conditions that tested the mettle of every team. Scott Free Racing struggled to find the right setup for the challenging environment, making it difficult to match the blistering pace of the front-runners. Despite the setbacks, the team managed to push through and maintain a fighting position, knowing the final day would be their chance to make a statement.

Final Day: A Race Against the Odds
Entering the last day of the World Championships, Scott Free Racing faced a high-pressure scenario: a strong finish was essential to climb onto the podium. The team was poised and ready for the challenge, but mechanical issues struck just when it mattered most. Persistent technical problems hindered the boat’s performance, making it nearly impossible to contend for the lead. Despite their best efforts, Scott Free Racing crossed the finish line in 4th place overall, just missing out on the podium.

Reflections on a Tough Season
The Key West World Championships mirrored the ups and downs of a challenging 2024 season for Scott Free Racing. From battling rough conditions in Ocean City to overcoming engine troubles in Sarasota, the team faced their fair share of adversity but consistently demonstrated their resilience and drive to compete at the highest level.

Looking ahead, Scott Free Racing is fully committed to regrouping during the offseason. Plans are already in motion to address mechanical reliability and fine-tune setups to ensure a stronger and more competitive 2025 campaign.

“We gave it everything we had this season, and while the results weren’t always what we hoped for, we’ve learned a lot and are ready to come back stronger,” said the team. “Thank you to our fans, sponsors, and crew for standing by us every step of the way.”

Stay tuned as Scott Free Racing gears up for an exciting year ahead—2025 is just around the corner, and the team is ready to chase new goals and victories.
