Podium Finish for Hometown Team at Sarasota Grand Prix
July 7, 2018The 4th of July is always a busy weekend for Scott Free Racing as it marks the annual Sarasota Grand Prix in their hometown of Sarasota, FL. The Sarasota Grand Prix is going into its 34th year and Scott Free has had the privilege to compete in every event, which no other team has done. The event kicked off with a meet and greet which allowed fans to interact with team and get autographs before the big race on Sunday. " The fans are always great in Sarasota", said Stephen Kildahl. " Being our hometown race, we know a lot of people and it's good to see such great support". Saturday the team spent the day preparing the boat and making setup changes for an unusual rough waters off the coast of Lido Beach. According to the crew, the team moved weight around to help with the setup changes and a final prop selection will be decided on Sunday. As race morning approached, the water conditions were not as rough as Saturday so it made the prop selection tricky. The team started in the pole position which would be a great advantage for the race. When the green flag dropped Scott Free was the first boat to turn 1 and was able to maintain the lead for 4 laps until Mr Technology was able to take the lead. The team was in position for a solid 2nd place finish until the coupler exploded taking us out of the race. " We had a great setup for the most part, we needed a little bit less prop and probably would not have lost the lead", said Stephen. After all said and done, two boats failed post race inspection which moved Scott Free Racing on the podium for a 3rd place finish!
